Good afternoon Panthers! Please allow me to introduce Janae Hafford, a social worker that works with pregnant and parenting students on our campus.
Hello. I hope your school year has gotten off to a great start. I am writing to introduce myself as well as to tell you more about the TPP program and CEHI (Compensatory Education Home Instruction). The purpose of the TPP program is to reduce the number of students who drop out of school due to pregnancy and or parenthood. The program is intended to serve both teen mothers and teen fathers. To that end, I am a licensed clinical social worker who will work very closely with all of the pregnant or parenting students here on campus through the TPP Program. Another piece of the program is providing services through CEHI (Compensatory Education Home Instruction). This component allows students who are pregnant to receive in-home instruction in the weeks after they have delivered their babies and must be out of school. It can also be used for students before delivery if pregnancy-related complications occur. As you encounter students who are pregnant and or parenting please refer them to our school nurse, Ms. B. Sutherland, in the school clinic. This will help us ensure that we are offering services to all students who qualify for the program. I am on campus on Tuesday afternoons and located in the clinic as well. I can also be reached via email at [email protected] or cell at 2147327422 and I’m on campus on Tuesday afternoons. Hello Teachers and Students!
The library will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair the week of February 11-February 18th!! Here is a small preview of the fair. Even though this is a MS book fair, there will be plenty of books and items for you to browse and purchase! https://bookfairsfiles.scholastic.com/flippingbooks/S22/S22-MS-Case-Booklist/S22_MS_Case_Booklist.html#p=1 Multiple opportunities for students to become familiar and comfortable with the online
testing platform should occur prior to the TELPAS and STAAR testing windows. Please view the following timeline to ensure students are exposed to the practice tutorials. We encourage students to explore the practice test at least 4 to 6 times prior to the dates listed below.
We typically have class assemblies in the auditorium with students to discuss the rules and expectations but Covid has necessitated a different approach.
Please meet with your assigned counselor to make sure you are on track to graduate. The list of counselors and emails addresses: Comprehensive & IB Counselors

Former Hillcrest graduate students, Erika Muse and Wendy Bradley work for Highland Springs. Here is a message from Erika sharing two unique opportunities for our seniors: First and foremost, let me tell you about the company. Highland Springs is an independent senior living facility located in Dallas just a few minutes from UTD. We are on a 60-acre property currently with 2 neighborhoods with the third breaking ground this week. We currently have a CVS, private bank, and 3 restaurants on campus and opening a 4th in the next few months, so quickly growing! It is unlike any retirement home I’ve ever visited and it’s honestly one of the best places to work as everyone is so friendly and the residents are so joyful. Here is how your students can benefit: Every year seniors can apply for our scholarship program to get money for college after they have been working here for a year. Currently it is at a $12,000 value and the last few years every qualifying senior that applied got it! This is great for students who want to start planning ahead and it would also look great on their resume to work at a senior facility instead of their typical retail or fast-food job. And for current seniors that wouldn’t meet the one-year requirement for the scholarship we do also offer tuition reimbursement for full-time and part-time positions. I’ve attached our current flyers to this email so feel free to share this information with any students you think would be interested. If any students wish to apply, then please make sure they mention my name that I recommended them to improve their odds of getting hired as I would love fellow Panthers to benefit. I am not a recruiter; I work in the Interior Design department but am always open to answer any questions if they don’t want to speak to a recruiter right away. If anyone IS ready to speak to a recruiter then they can contact Wendy Bradley, her information is on the flyers, and she is actually also a Hillcrest Alum!
Ms. Huntley is going to coach a low-key spelling team this year. She LOVE to get some kids who aren't IB or who aren't seniors involved. Below is a flyer with more information. Come to room 154 for the lists and to sign up, or email Ms. Huntley with questions: [email protected] You can also join a Spelling remind to get in touch: @e7fgf2h Thank you!
